Policy Commission recommends 15% methanol mixture compulsory, 10% cheaper may be petrol

If the efforts of the Policy Commission are successful, then you can get great relief on petrol expenditure soon. The policy commission has sought the approval of the central cabinet to run all petrol vehicles on essentially 15 per cent methanol mixed fuel. According to media reports, if the policy commission succeeds, you can save up to 10% on fuel costs for a month. At the same time, it can also see a decrease in the expensive oil imports being done by India.

According to the news in the English newspaper Economic Times, the last week of July has been a high-level meeting since this. According to the news, Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha himself is personally looking into progress about this. The Policy Commission has prepared a road map for an ambitious Methanol economy. According to this, India can reduce the import of crude oil by $ 20 billion by 2030 using methanol. It can be used as a fuel for transport and cooking. At present, vehicles in India use up to 10 percent ethanol mixture.
At this time, where petrol is available between Rs 75 to Rs 80, ethanol price is only 42 rupees per liter. The estimated cost of methanol is less than 20 rupees per liter. By 15 per cent mix, petrol prices can fall by 10 per cent. The auto industry has not responded yet.

Dr SSV Ramakumar, R & D director of Indian Oil Corporation, said that technically Methanol is suitable for mixed petrol use. He said that there are two challenges here, the durability of the first mixed fuel and its compatibility with the engine. Both the oil and auto industry are working together in this regard.
